Sun Photo by Phil Gentry
It was very dark and very chilly when the J.C. Penney Co. store in Greeneville Commons opened its doors at 4 a.m., but the early hour and cold air didn't deter the shoppers lined up at both store entrances, waiting for the shopping to begin. The store gave Christmas tree ornaments to everyone who came in until they were all gone. Shown at the check-out counter in this photo, made about 6:30 a.m., are, left to right, Rob Weaver, Keera Franklin, Paula and Billy Chandler, and sales clerk Kristy Thompson.
