The Baileyton Area Historical Society and students from Baileyton Elementary and North Greene High schools have worked together to create a 2010 calendar featuring historic sites in the Baileyton area.

Each month of the calendar features a photo and a student drawing. The artwork includes churches, schools, businesses and homes that date from 1830 to 1942.

Several of the buildings no longer exist, while some are still standing.

The cover drawing is of Farmers and Traders Bank, a 1912 building, drawn by sixth-grader Suhmer Burris.

Other featured artists and their works are:

* NGHS Art Department -- Oakland Seminary, Bruner House with pitcher pump, and a drug store;

* Tyler Laughters and Samuel Gragg -- Baileyton Baptist Church;

* Michaela Heck and Jonathon Morgan -- Farmers and Traders Bank;

* Skylar Collis, Gracie Light, Jade Yokley and Ethan Starnes -- Bailey Memorial Auditorium;

* Joe Lucas -- Baileyton Methodist Episcopal Church;

* Kendal Loftis -- The Three Peaks: Stone Lump, Fodder Stack and Chimney Top;

* Cheyanna Penley -- Baileyton High School;

* Taylor Starnes -- Union Drug Co.;

* Megan Kirk, Emilee Starnes and Matthew Lutz -- Jessie Starnes Home; and

* Kyle Reynolds -- Zion Methodist Episcopal Church.

Students in grades K-12 were asked by the historical society to draw historic buildings or architectural features based on original photographs from the society's archives.

In addition to the photos and drawings, the calendar includes bits of historic information.

For example, printed on the Jan. 21 space is the fact that the Laurel Gap Post Office was renamed the Baileyton Post Office on Jan. 21, 1892.

The calendar is intended to preserve the history of the Baileyton area while raising funds for the historical society and the two schools.

The calendars are available for $10 each and can be purchased at Baileyton Elementary School, North Greene High School, the T. Elmer Cox Historical and Genealogical Library, and several Baileyton businesses, including: Cuz's Drive-Thru, the Amish Cupboard and Laurel Gap Crafts and Antiques.

Checks can be made payable to Baileyton Area Historical Society.
