To Downtown For
Children's Event
Main Street: Greeneville will be sponsoring "Halloween Happenings" on Friday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. in downtown Greeneville.
The public is encouraged to come to downtown Greeneville Friday afternoon to enjoy the free festivities.
Merchants, professional offices, banks, churches and the county courthouse will be displaying "Halloween Happenings" posters, indicating they are prepared to treat youngsters with candy if the children are under 13 years of age and are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
FIRST COSTUME CONTEST
At the Towne Square Shopping Center, merchants will be giving out candy and holding the first of three costume contests. At 4 p.m. there will be a Children's Costume Contest.
Age groups will be: up to 23 months; 2-3 years; 4-5 years; 6-7 years; 8-9 years and those 10-12 years. The contestants must start registering by 3:30 p.m.
Ribbons will be given for different costumes. Pictures may be taken at the decorated Photo Op Area located between Central Drug Store and Comcast Cable.
SECOND COSTUME CONTEST
The Lion's Club of Greeneville will hold the second Children's Costume Contest at the County Courthouse at 5 p.m.
The contest will have age categories of under four years; 4-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-12 years. Prizes will be awarded to three winners in each age category.
ADULT COSTUME CONTEST
The Adult Costume Contest sponsored by Main Street: Greeneville takes place at the General Morgan Inn lobby beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Inn's employees will also be handing out candy to children.
HAY RIDES
The Greeneville Public Works Department will offer hay rides on Depot Street.
Children may get on the wagons at the corner of Irish and Depot Street and ride up Depot Street to the parking lot of the Greene County Partnership and back.
The "Theatre-at-Tusculum" will turn the corner of Depot and Main into the "Enchanted Castle" as characters from Beauty and The Beast sing and dance to the music and lyrics of their upcoming musical.
Spooky music will be performed by the piano students of Deane K Gray on the lawn of the County Courthouse.
CHALK DRAWINGS
Main Street: Greeneville will oversee the chalk drawings on the 100 block of North Main Street.
Come show your artistic talent. Special prizes for children will be provided by Modern Woodmen of America.
MANY TO GIVE CANDY
Candy will be given to children by merchants and banks with offices on Summer Street, nearby Main and Church streets and at the Towne Square Shopping Center.
Also, John Deere Power Products employees will be in front of James-Ben Gallery giving out treats.
Other merchants and professionals participating this year include: General Morgan Inn, A Gathering of Friends, Regan's Furniture, Kyker's Department Store, Tipton's Café, Greeneville Antique Market, Realty Executives, On The Verge Gallery, Rogers, Laughlin, Nunnally, Hood & Crum PC attorneys, Keith A Livingston, Attorney, Adams and Plucker, CPA, King & King Attorneys, Greene County Farmer's Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, area churches and Towne Square Shopping Center.
WSMG, WGRV and WIKQ will be broadcasting from the parking lot of the Greeneville City School offices.
