After more than a year of controversy and much hard work, Kinser Park has complied with all requirements from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), according to an announcement made Tuesday.
The "good news" was announced at a meeting of the Kinser Park Commission by Vice Chairman Fay Byrd, presiding in the absence of Chairman Bob Schubel.
"They accepted everything with flying colors," Byrd said of the compliance with TVA, which owns the land where Kinser Park is located and leases it to the Greeneville and Greene County governments.
Byrd said that Chairman Schubel and park manager Johnny Gregg met at the park on Friday, Oct. 23, with TVA officials Hugh Standridge and Nancy Greer.
Byrd also read a two-page letter dated Oct. 21 from Schubel to Standridge listing all matters that were resolved since a July 17 inspection of the park.
The requirements were related to a number of areas in the park, including: seasonal campsites, electrical units, water permits, fuel storage and a cemetery.

Byrd recognized the hard work of Schubel, Gregg and Joe Bow,man, the park's assistant manager.
He noted that Gregg and Bowman completed the required upgrades during the busiest time of the park's season.
"It's not been an easy task," Byrd said.
The cemetery is located near the park's office.
It contains unmarked graves of approximately five members of the Cooter family, according to Marie Harmon, a local historian and a descendant of the Cooters. She told the commission that she likely can use written history to identify which family members are buried there.
Gregg said he would like to have a plaque at the cemetery listing their names. He said TVA asked him to erect posts at the corners of the cemetery.
Gregg presented a new map of the park that shows the park's present layout, along with plans for additional campsites.
He said he will hang the map in the park office where it can be viewed by the public.
In other action, Byrd, who is resigning from the commission on Nov. 30, recommended construction of a small pavilion at the swimming pool area.
Gregg said he would bring an estimate for a pavilion to the November meeting.
Kinser Park is scheduled to close for the season on Sunday, Nov. 1.
