The top floor of the former Laughlin Memorial Hospital came down Thursday afternoon as part of a demolition project at Walters State Community College's Greeneville campus. The 70,000-square-foot oldest portion of the former hospital building that faces North Main Street will be replaced by a landscaped parking area. In the past several weeks, the walls of this portion of the building had shown cartoon paintings from the hospital's former pediatric wing. The general contractor for the demolition project is BurWil Construction Company, of Bristol. JL Jacobs & Associates, of Greeneville, is the consulting engineer firm overseeing the project. The $600,000 project is scheduled to be complete in January 2010.
