The Greene County Partnership's tourism department is encouraging people to obtain of copy of its "Main Street to the Mountains" auto tour book.
The full-color, spiral-bound book is available for $3.50, with quantity discounts available for vendors, at the GCP's office at 115 Academy St.
"With fall in the air, the colors changing and the peak in interest in outdoor recreation, the auto tours are the perfect way to enjoy our rich scenic beauty and outdoor bounty," said Tammy Kinser, the GCP's tourism director.
The concept of the guide was to develop a series of day trips that would focus on scenic drives, points of interest, picnicking and short walks and hikes.
Four auto tours are recommended:
* A Track Through Greene County;
* Along the Foot of Greystone;
* A Journey to Paint Rock, and
* Rivers, Roads and Rail Lines.
Each tour is introduced with a summary of what will be seen and what was once located on these back roads in Greene County.
The self-guided tours begin in the parking lot of the Greene County Partnership on Academy Street and the mileage begins as the visitor exits.
Several key points of interest are noted throughout each tour and several side trips are offered as well.
The guide also features a "Before You Begin" section that alerts participants to amenities that will be needed for the tour such as plenty of gasoline, binoculars, cameras and film as well as picnic foods and appropriate dress for hiking.
