QUILT EXPERT AT MUSEUM

In conjunction with the Fall A-Fair, the quilt show at the Nathanael Greene Museum, "A History of Greene County Quilts, 1830-1950," will continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

Famed quilting author and historian Merikay Waldvogel, of Knoxville, will be at the museum on Saturday. (The museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays.)

Waldvogel will evaluate quilts brought to the museum that day, offering information such as the pattern and age of each quilt.

With the regular $5 admission to the quilt show, each visitor can have one quilt evaluated by Waldvogel.

On display at the museum through Saturday is a fundraiser quilt with 81 squares based on the Barn Quilt murals of the Appalachian RC&D Council's Quilt Trail of Northeast Tennessee.

Raffle tickets for the quilt, made by the First Frontier Quilters, are on sale now and will be sold through Oct. 29. The cost of the tickets is $2 each or 3 for $5.

The winning ticket will be drawn on October 30th during the WJHL Channel 11 Morning News with Josh Smith.

The purpose of this raffle is to support the maintenance and growth of the trail, farmland preservation, and to help preserve and promote the art of quilting.
