Elizabethton stretched its Appalachian League West
Division lead on Friday night with a 7-5 victory over host Greeneville at Pioneer
Park.
The Twins (10-1) never trailed, jumping to an early lead on an RBI
by Tyler Ladendorf in the top of the first.
Greeneville (6-5) tied it up
in the bottom of the third on a solo homer by Jose Altuve, but a strong fourth, fifth and sixth
innings put Elizabethton back out front 6-1.
The Astros rallied for a
three-run sixth, all coming with two away, and then tacked on a run on a solo home run by Jiovanni
Mier in the seventh to make it 6-5 before the Twins settled down and got away with the
victory.
Greeneville outhit Elizabethton 10-9. Luis Alvarez went 2-for-4
with a double and three RBIs.
The win for Elizabethton keeps the Twins
comfortably atop the division standings, three games clear of Johnson City (7-4) and four up on the
Astros.
The Astros and Twins square off tonight in game three of the
series with a special Independence Day celebration scheduled at the ball park after the
game.
