WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., made the following statement last week after General Motors announced it would build its new subcompact car in Michigan, not Spring Hill, Tenn.
"I'm very disappointed in GM's decision not to locate its new sub-compact facility in Tennessee," Corker said. "Though our plant was not selected, there is still reason for optimism."
He said, "There's no doubt that the Spring Hill facility is one of the most modern and state-of-the-art in the country and that Tennessee has an outstanding, capable and qualified workforce.
"We will work closely with Gov. [Phil] Bredesen to in the end have a very positive outcome, and I hope that in the near future automobiles will again be made in Spring Hill, Tennessee."
