The Greene County Sheriff's Department is warning the public to beware of unsolicited phone calls in which the caller informs residents that their debit cards have been canceled.
"I received a complaint from a Chuckey resident that he had received a call from a 1-888 number that told him that his debit card had been canceled and he should call the number and provide his account number to have his debit card re-activated," Capt. Huffine said. "This, of course, is a scam."
In addition, a Baileyton-area resident left a telephone message for a Greeneville Sun reporter that indicated that he had received a similar call at his residence.
