A man and a child were injured shortly after noon Tuesday in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction accident on East Andrew Johnson Highway near Lafayette Street.
A report filed by GPD Officer David Shell said the accident occurred when Sherry Lynn Smith, of Braketree Lane, had slowed her 1999 Toyota Camry for traffic and was struck from behind by a 2007 Ford Mustang driven by Pat Bolinger, of the East Andrew Johnson Highway, Limestone.
After the initial collision, the report said, Bolinger's Mustang was hit from behind by a 1994 Pontiac driven by Fred Melton, of Tunnel Hill Road, Greeneville.
Melton's vehicle then was struck from behind by a maroon Ford F-150 pickup truck that left the scene.
Bolinger, according to the report, was taken by a Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Laughlin Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Dalton Melton, 9, a passenger in the Melton vehicle, was taken by ambulance to Takoma Regional Hospital for treatment.
