A 62-year-old
Tusculum man was reported in serious condition at the Johnson City Medical Center this morning after
the bicycle he was riding on Sam Doak Drive was struck by a car on Monday
evening.
Trooper Eric Wise, who investigated the accident, said Jackie
Youther, who will turn 63 on Wednesday, was riding a bicycle north on Sam Doak Drive in front of
Doak Elementary School shortly before 6 p.m. Monday when he was struck from behind by a northbound
2004 Pontiac GrandAm sedan driven by Marlyn Buchanan, 61, of Erwin
Highway.
The impact threw Youther onto the car's hood and into its
windshield, Trooper Wise said.
Buchanan said she did not see Youther
before her car collided with his bicycle, Trooper Wise said.
This
morning, Trooper Wise said he had not decided who was at fault in the collision and that his
investigation is continuing.
Youther had been flown from the scene to the
Johnson City Medical Center by a Wings Air Rescue helicopter. A nursing supervisor there said he was
listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit this morning.
