A burglary and theft discovered Wednesday at the
Houston Valley Club is being investigated by the Greene County Sheriff's
Department.
A report filed by Deputy Sheriff Nakia Tweed said the club's
owner discovered about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday that the club's front door had been smashed sometime
during the night before and that three money bags containing a total of $900 had been stolen.
Damage to the door and its frame was listed at another $600, according
to Deputy Tweed's report.
The burglary was the second incident in recent
days at the club, which is off Bolton Road.
On Sept. 1, Brandon Lawler,
the club's owner, told officers that some time between 5 a.m. Aug. 31 and 1:30 p.m. Sept. 1, someone
threw a rock through a glass side door to gain entry to the
building.
Deputy Sheriff Michael Jones' report said the burglar or
burglars attempted to set fire to carpet in the club's pool room and the cloth cover of a pool
table.
The report said the small fires resulted in several burned spots
in the carpet, but did not spread. A wall also was damaged, according to the
report.
Damage to two doors was estimated at $800, while damage to the
carpet was estimated at $500. Damage to a wall was estimated at $200, while damage to the cloth
covering of a pool table was estimated at another $100. Nothing was then reported
missing.
