A number of people were charged locally with DUI over the July 4th weekend.
Among those charged were:
* Charles D. Hopson, 50, of 111 Saw Mill Hollow Road, who was charged with DUI (2nd offense) and driving on a revoked license (3rd offense) by Trooper Mike Moberley after a traffic stop for failing to wear a seat belt.
Bond for Hopson was set at $5,400 and he was scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on July 7.
* Cammie D. Peterson, 34, of 114 Indian Hills Circle, who was charged by GPD Officer Jackie Tweed with DUI and violating the implied-consent law after police were called to the McDonald's restaurant on the Asheville Highway in reference to a possible drunken driver.
Bond for Peterson was set at $2,000. She was scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on July 7.
* Fernando Martinez, 22, of 290 Snapps Ferry Park, who was charged with DUI about 3 a.m. July 6 by GPD Officer Billy Christy after a traffic stop on Snapps Ferry Road.
Bond for Martinez was set at $1,000. He was scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on July 7.
* Thomas D. Hankins, 20, of 653 Water Stone Circle, who was charged with DUI early July 7 by Deputy Sheriff Nakia Tweed after the vehicle he was driving struck a power pole on Buckingham Road.
Bond for Hankins was set at $1,000. He was scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on July 7.
* Nelson Lee Phillips, 25, of the Old Asheville Highway, who was charged with DUI by Tusculum Police Officer Dustin Jeffers after a traffic stop on U.S. 11E.
Bond for Phillips was set at $1,000. He was scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on July 7.
In addition, Officer Jeffers charged Michael A. Hensley, 56, of 600 Chuckey Pike, the owner of the truck that Phillips was driving at the time of his arrest, with DUI by consent.
Bond for Hensley was set at $1,000. He was scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on July 7.
