A public meeting to gather comments regarding the proposed "bypass around the bypass" or "northern loop" is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria at Greeneville High School.
The meeting will be held by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
Travis Brickey, a TDOT spokesman based in Knoxville, said the meeting will begin with a formal presentation to explain its purpose.
Brickey said the GHS meeting will be the first environmental public meeting on the northern loop project. Input gathered at the meeting will be used to develop an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project, over the next several years.
No funds for land acquisition or construction have been appropriated at this time.
Persons who have attended other TDOT meetings on road routes should not expect to see a map that is large enough or detailed enough to let them know whether or not a specific structure or piece of property will be affected, Brickey said.
TDOT officials will be present to answer questions after the formal presentation.
