DANVILLE, Va. -- The Greeneville Astros snapped their six-game losing skid and defeated the Appy East leading Danville Braves 7-5 here Friday night.

Greeneville (4-7) got solid pitching from starter Kyle Greenwalt (2-1), who went five innings, and got good late inning relief from Colt Pitkin and Nathaniel Pettus to knock off the Braves. They also pounded out 14 hits, including three each from Ricardo Bonfante and newcomer Ebert Rosario, who played at Greeneville last year but was moved up to Tri-City this season. Rosario was summoned back to Greeneville to help out at third base and supply some needed hitting support, which he did in fine fashion.

In addition, the Astros continue to show some home run power, as Frederico Hernandez hit his first of the year, a two-run blast in the eighth that gave Greeneville some breathing room.

Greeneville got solo runs in each of the first three innings off Danville starter Randall Delgado. Back-to-back singles to start the game by Wilton Infante and Bonfante got the Astros in good shape and Infante later scored on Frank Almonte's groundout.

In the second frame, Rosario made his presence immediately known with a double to left, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit by Hernandez. Then in the third, Infante reached on a bunt single, went to second on a groundout, and scored on Almonte's double to put Greeneville up 3-0.

Greenwalt got off to a great start, striking out five of the first six batters he faced and he had eight "Ks" through five innings.

Danville finally reached Greenwalt for a run in the bottom of the fourth, with Jon Gilmore's double knocking in L.V. Ware, who had singled with one out.

The Astros made it 5-1 with two runs in the sixth. Kody Hinze and Rosario had back-to-back hits and moved up on a bunt by Hernandez. Renzo Tello was intentionally walked to load the bases. Nathan Metroka came through with a two-run single to right.

But Danville came roaring back in the home half of the sixth with three unearned runs off reliever Arcenio Leon. With one out, Ware was hit by a pitch. Leon got the second out, but two straight fielding errors by Wilton Infante in center allowed Ware to score on a base hit by Gilmore, and Gilmore came around to home plate on the second error in the outfield. Mathew Kennelly knocked in the third run with a base hit.

The Astros preserved their 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh when right fielder Renzo Tello threw out David Berres at home plate trying to score from second on a base hit by Shehan.

Greeneville then tacked on two big runs in the eighth on Hernandez's two-run homer. Danville got one run back in the bottom of the eighth on a double by Gilmore and an infield groundout by Kennelly.

The Braves also threatened in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Shayne Moody got a base hit and went to third when Ware reached on a fielding error, Greeneville's fourth error of the night. Nathaniel Pettus came on to get the save by striking out Shehan for the third out.

The two teams close out the series tonight. Greeneville returns home on Sunday to begin a three-game set with Princeton. Game time is 6 p.m. It will be "Family Value Night" with two-for-one ticket prices.
