DANVILLE, Va. -- Danville bunched all four of their runs into one inning and held off the Greeneville Astros 4-3 here Thursday night in an Appalachian League contest.

The loss was Greeneville's sixth straight and dropped the Astros (3-7) into the cellar of the West Division. Danville is 8-2 and leads the league's East Division. The two teams meet again tonight and Saturday in Danville before the Astros return home Sunday to take on Princeton.

Danville starter Richard Sullivan worked into the seventh inning and picked up the victory for the Braves. Luis Cruz started for Greeneville and worked three good innings with no runs allowed. Wander Alvino worked the final five innings and was tagged with the mound loss.

The Braves scored all their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Mike Elkerson singled and came home on a triple by Joel Campusano. Shayne Moody followed with a single that scored Campusano. Chais Fuller followed that up with a double, moving Moody to third. Moody came home on an RBI sacrifice fly by L.V. Ware. The final Danville run scored on a base hit by Chris Shehan.

The Astros came right back in the top of the sixth to get their runs and close the gap to 4-3. With one out, Jay Austin slapped an infield single, went to second on a ground out, and scored on Frank Almonte's double. Kody Hinze then hit his second homer in as many games by lofting one over the center field fence for a two-run shot.

Danville never threatened again. The Astros did.

In the top of the ninth, Hinze walked to start the inning and Albert Cartwright was inserted as a pinch runner. He trotted to second on a wild pitch, then tagged up and went to third on a fly to right by Frederico Hernandez, leaving the tying run on third with one out.

But Renzo Tello hit a line drive to third baseman Jon Gilmore, who made a diving spear of the ball and was able to tag out Cartwright at third base for a double play to end the game.
