Greeneville's 10-year-old Jaspal Singh Mahal won his second consecutive championship of The Ridges Junior Tennis Open tournament for boys' 12 singles held at Jonesborough.

Mahal, seeded as the No. 1 player, beat Bowen Wexler of Johnson City 6-1, 6-0 for a straight set victory in the quarterfinals, and downed Ryland Byrd of Johnson City 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.

He won the championship by upending Matthew Henson of Bristol 6-3, 6-1 in the finals.

At this tournament Mahal also took second place in the boys' 14 singles event by defeating John Wexler of Johnson City 6-0, 6-0 in a round robin format, but lost to James Nuckolls of Kingsport 6-3, 6-2 in the final round when fatigue took its toll.

As of June 16, Mahal is ranked 20th among boys 12-years and younger in the state of Tennessee, and he is ranked 160th among boys 14-years and younger.
