Is In Tusculum, Serving
Desserts And Sandwiches By DOUGLAS
WATSON Managing Editor A small,
attractive restaurant, Chocolate Cafe & Coffee Co., has opened at 665 Erwin Highway in Tusculum,
across the road from the historic Doak House and Tusculum College. The
owner-operator is Jaqueline "Jaci" Weaver, of Greeneville. The restaurant
was handsomely remodeled from a former house by her husband, Tom Weaver, a real estate investor and
developer who likes to remodel and renovate older buildings. Mrs. Weaver
said for decades she has enjoyed cooking and food preparation, especially creating chocolate
desserts, which explains the new restaurant's name. Daniel Manning is the
restaurant's manager. Since opening on May 12, the Chocolate Cafe has
been attracting diners who at times are more than the restaurant's 16 seats can accommodate.
However, the restaurant has at least as much outdoor seating. The
Chocolate Cafe does not serve extensive dinners. It features six different kinds of $5.95 sandwiches
or wraps: chicken salad, tuna salad, turkey cheese, ham cheese, grilled chicken wrap, and grilled
chicken caesar wrap. Also on the menu are four kinds of overstuffed baked
potatoes, a variety of salads, soups, and drinks. And, of course, there
are some tempting desserts, including Chocolaty Chocolate Cake, Orange Dreamsicle Cake, Lemon Berry
Mascarpone Cake and Big Tennessee Cheesecake. There also is a breakfast
menu. Chocolate Cafe & Coffee Company is open on weekdays from 7 a.m.
to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is closed on
Sundays. The restaurant welcomes takeout orders. The telephone number is
638-6221.
