Debra Sandercock, whose name will appear on the June 3 Greeneville city ballot for the 2nd Ward school board seat, sent word Tuesday to a public forum that she will not be a candidate.

Homer Marcum, a member of the Kiwanis Club who was one of the moderators of the forum, read the letter at the start of the school board portion of what Kiwanians called a "town meeting."

The letter reads, in full:

"Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

"I regret that I am not here to participate. I am at the Greeneville High School Awards Convocation with my daughter, Jaye, who graduates this Friday.

"After beginning my campaign for the Greeneville City School Board, I have found that I will not be able to complete a four-year term. Please do not vote for me. Before I could fulfill a school board term, my family and I will be moving back to my husband's home. This opportunity did not exist when I chose to run for a position.

"Thank you for coming tonight and participating in this forum. Thank you also to the Kiwanis Club and The Greeneville Sun for organizing this wonderful opportunity for open discussion and questioning of candidates.

"Sincerely,

"Debra Sandercock."
