Greene County Trustee Dan Walker remained in serious condition this morning following surgery on Tuesday at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., according to a hospital spokesperson.

Walker underwent several hours of surgery that included skin grafting.

The county official was injured May 12 in a brush-burning accident that occurred on his farm off George Malone Road in northern Greene County.

This morning, Maxine Carter, deputy trustee, said she talked to Walker's daughter, Beth McNeese, on Tuesday following his surgery.

"She (McNeese) said he was in recovery and everything went good (during the surgery)," Carter said. She added, "He got all the grafts done."

Following the incident, Walker was initially treated at Laughlin Memorial Hospital and was flown by a Wings Air Rescue helicopter to the burn center in Winston-Salem.

Walker suffered burns over 37 percent of his body when he was thrown from an all-terrain vehicle into a burning brush pile while attempting to drag a fallen cherry tree or a large limb of the tree into the fire, according to Greene County Mayor Alan Broyles.
