A Greene County woman was charged by Johnson City police on Friday, May 16, with felony shoplifting.

Johnson City police responded to Belk's Women's Store in the Mall, at 2011 N. Roan Street, in reference to a shoplifter.

"It was determined that loss prevention employees had seen a white female, identified as Amanda R. Wheeler, 23, 500 Bear Hollow Road, Greeneville, take three women's purses and wallets from the shelves and attempt to leave the store without paying," a police press release charged.

"She was detained without incident by loss prevention employees. The total amount of items stolen was $1,140."

Wheeler was arrested and charged with felony shoplifting and was transported to the Washington County Detention Center.

She was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bond. Her arraignment was scheduled for today at 1:30 p.m. in Washington County General Sessions Court.
