More than 200 people swarmed into the General Morgan Inn Tuesday evening to sample food and drink from 14 local restaurants and a beverage vendor at the 19th annual "Taste of Greeneville" event.
The popular, and tasty, event was formerly known as "International Tasting."
A group of more than 50 anxious and hungry people formed a line in the General Morgan Inn at least 15 minutes before doors were opened to the event around 6 p.m.
Once it began, attendees proceeded to pass by two rows of vendors and take samples to fill their Styrofoam plates.
Cary Hice sat with friends at one of the ballroom dining tables with a plate of various food samples before her.
'Delicious' Food
Hice said the barbeque beans from Chuckwagon Barbecue were "delicious," and that the lemon Tiramisu from Ella's Acoustic Cafe was "very, very good."
"Everything I've tasted is good," Doug Nott said, especially a three-cheese pasta with chunks of filet mignon he tried that was served up by Ricardo's Italian Village/Mill Wheel.
Proceeds To Community
More than $2,000 was netted from the event, according to Beth Smith, president of the hosting organization, the Greeneville Woman's Club.
Smith said that all proceeds will benefit programs of Main Street: Greeneville and the Greeneville Woman's Club.
"All the money our club earns is donated back to the programs we support in the areas of the arts, education, conservation, international affairs, public affairs and home life," Smith said.
"It's always a fun experience," Smith said after the evening affair had concluded.

The vendors and the food, drink or desserts they offered samples of were:

Smith said more than 200 people who attended the event voted for "Best Food" and "Best Decoration" of their serving tables. The winners were Chuckwagon Barbecue and Ella's Acoustic Cafe, respectively.
Smith and Ann Van Buskirk of the Greeneville Woman's Club were the primary organizers.
