Driver's-Side Door Bears The Brunt Of 11E Collision With Pickup Truck

By BILL JONES

Staff Writer

Greeneville police and emergency personnel from several agencies responded shortly after 7 a.m. today to a serious traffic collision on the West Andrew Johnson Highway at Twin Barns Road.

Radio transmissions indicated that Greene County 911 dispatched police and units of the Greeneville Fire Department, the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad and Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services to the accident scene.

Also on the scene was a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper.

A Greeneville Sun photographer who reached the location of the accident shortly before 7:30 a.m. said the collision involved a subcompact Chevrolet Aveo and a Ford F-150 pickup.

The pickup truck appeared to have struck the subcompact car in its driver's door in the eastbound traffic lanes of the West Andrew Johnson Highway, witnesses at the scene said.

The driver of the Chevrolet was trapped in the heavily-damaged car until she was freed by Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad volunteers and Greeneville firefighters, Sun photographer Phil Gentry said from the scene.

The injured driver was flown to an area hospital by the WellmontOne medical evacuation helicopter based at Takoma Regional Hospital.

A passenger in the car also was injured, witnesses said.

The accident remains under investigation by the Greeneville Police Department.
