Chuckey-Doak and South Greene still have tennis players competing for titles as the final day of the District 1-A/AA Tennis Tournament continued this morning at the Greene County Tennis Center.

In girls' singles, South Greene's No. 2-seed Rachel Pulliam has moved to the semifinals and was slated to take on Rachel Witt of Johnson County. The other half of the girls' semis has top seed Kelby Marston of Unicoi County facing off against Elizabethton's Brittni Thacker.

Greene County has two girls' doubles teams still alive. No. 2-seed Corlette Murphy and Christy Johnson of Chuckey-Doak were scheduled to take on Unicoi's Vanessa Bryant and Mary Beth Shults in one semifinal today. In the other bracket, South Greene's Ashley Ferguson and Amanda Bowman, who entered the tourney as a No. 13 seed, scored two straight upsets to move to the semis and they will play top seed Jessica Brumit and Janey Robinson of Elizabethton.

In boys' singles, the top four seeds in the tournament made it to the semifinals, including South Greene's Heath Smith, the No. 3 seed, who will play No. 2 seed Caleb Pate of Unicoi County. Top seed Wade Tugman of Johnson County meets No. 4 seed Jonathan Kenney of Unicoi County in the other half of the bracket.

Chuckey-Doak's doubles duo of Corey Jenkins and James Durham remain alive in boys' doubles. Seeded at No. 3, Jenkins and Durham will play Matt Goins and Mikey Hall of Sullivan North in a semifinal round, while the other half of the bracket has top seed Chris Brumit and Ricky Jones of Elizabethton going against Unicoi's Charlie Wu and Freddie Lyle, who came in as the No. 12 seed before pulling off two straight upsets.

It's the second straight year that the Greene County Tennis Center has hosted the tournament, which includes all four Greene County schools plus Elizabethton, Johnson County, Unicoi County and Sullivan North.
