Greene County sheriff's deputies are investigating the shooting of two people early Saturday, April 12, outside a northern Greene County residence.

A report filed by Deputy Sheriff Howard Gale said Heather Kinser, 18, of Goodman Loop, Bulls Gap, and Brandon Ripley, 21, of John Graham Road, Greeneville, were brought to Laughlin Memorial Hospital early Saturday suffering from gunshot wounds.

Kinser, according to the report, was suffering from a gunshot wound to her right upper thigh, while Ripley was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left knee.

Both were treated and released, according to a hospital spokesman.

Facts Being 'Sorted Out'

A supplement attached to Deputy Gale's report said the pair initially said they had been shot after their car broke down along Horton Highway near the Woodlawn Community Center.

Ripley, according to the supplement, identified the man who allegedly shot him, but indicated he did not wish to press charges.

After interviewing another witness and speaking with Kinser a second time, according to the supplement, officers learned that Kinser and Ripley had actually been shot outside a Wines Road residence.

Officers went there and confiscated a Ruger .22-caliber firearm, according to the report.

However, as of this morning, no charges had been filed against the man who allegedly fired the shots that struck Kinser and Ripley.

Detective Capt. John Huffine said this morning the facts of what occurred at the residence were still being "sorted out."

"Our detectives will probably consult with the district attorney this morning as to what charges might be filed," Detective Capt. Huffine said.
