Greene and Hamblen County sheriff's deputies were continuing to search this morning for a man who robbed a Dollar General store in Russellville on Thursday night and fled into Greene County.

Radio transmissions between a Greene County Sheriff's Department dispatcher and responding sheriff's deputies on Thursday night said a man driving a maroon, or red, sport utility vehicle had robbed the market about 7:30 p.m. and was being pursued by a state trooper in the Fish Hatchery Road area about 8 p.m.

Later, according to radio transmissions, the state trooper found the sport utility vehicle wrecked on Poncho Road off Fish Hatchery Road in western Greene County.

A firearm believed used in the robbery was found inside the wrecked vehicle but the suspect, who was said to have been wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans at the time of the robbery, had fled before the trooper reached the accident scene.

Greene County sheriff's deputies joined the search for the suspect and brought a police dog to the scene, radio transmissions indicated.

But a Sheriff's Department dispatcher said early this morning that the suspect remained at large.
