Chuckey Resident

Driving Mercedes

Dies In Kingsport;

Passenger Survives

A Greene County woman died Friday in Kingsport after the car she was driving overturned in a creek in Kingsport.

The Kingsport Times-News reported that Stella R. Hughes, 74, a resident of the 15000 block of the Horton Highway, in Chuckey, died Friday at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.

The newspaper reported that Hughes and her passenger, Vicky Taylor, 58, of Fall Branch, were in a Mercedes that went out of control in front of the ETSU Family Physicians office on Cassell Drive about 9 a.m. Friday.

The Times-News quoted Kingsport police as saying the car, with Hughes at the wheel, left a parking lot, traveled across Cassell Drive and went through a construction area before going over an embankment and landing on its top in Reedy Creek.

The two women were pulled from the overturned car by construction workers, according to the newspaper report.

Taylor was treated at the hospital and released. Hughes was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Kingsport police.
