(Last modified: 2008-10-08 12:18:57) Source: The Greeneville Sun For the first time this season, stoppage time was good for Chuckey-Doak. Brittany Dingus scored a late goal to give the Lady Knights a 2-1 win Tuesday over visiting University High. The game was even with the UH's Bettina Chirica scoring off a defensive error in the 15th minute for the only goal of the first half. The second half saw a change in momentum. The score was still in favor of University High until the 78th minute when C-D was awarded a direct kick. Senior Victoria Baldwin blistered the ball on target. The Junior keeper got a hand on the ball but was unable to secure it, and Nadareh Naseri buried the rebound into the net to tie the match. Just when the game appeared it would end in a 1-1 draw, C-D was awarded another direct kick, and this time senior Emily Adams took it. The free kick was won by Margaret Berry who lobbed the ball over the UH defensive line, and Dingus calmly took a touch setting up the game winner and placed the ball into the opposite corner of the net for the 2-1 Lady Black Knight win. Defensively, Rachel Goddard was the leader for C-D, stopping the Junior Lady Buc attack time after time while Kelly White, Eunice Nunez, Brooke White and Kaylen Butcher were solid in support. C-D goalkeeper Ariel Norton ended the night with 11 saves. "If anyone has kept up with us this season they know stoppage time has not been good for us.," said coach Anna Ricker. "I am so proud to finally see these young ladies play until the final whistle, never giving up, never letting up and earning a hard fought win. Every girl contributed to this victory with 100 percent effort." The Lady Black Knights, 7-6-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the district, are home for two games next week: Tuesday versus Morristown East at 5 p.m. and Senior Knight Thursday versus Daniel Boone at 5 p.m. Copyright © 2009, The Greeneville Sun |
