(Last modified: 2008-05-22 11:52:26) Source: The Greeneville Sun BY STEPHANY NAPIER Staff Intern Sherry Melton, who led the successful drive for what will be Greeneville's new skate park, and her husband, Michael, have opened up a skate and archery shop called Flipside. The shop is located at 423B Asheville Hwy. beside the Greeneville Fire Department station. Hours for the shop are noon to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. According to Melton, the shop will sell brand-name skateboards such as Baker, Flip, Alien Workshop, and Plan B, and parts such as decks, trucks, wheels and bearings. There will also be skate clothing and accessories. Melton said what the store doesn't have, it can order, including other items such as snowboards and roller blades. Flipside will also sell archery equipment. Michael Melton is a bow hunter. Explaining the store's name, Mrs. Melton said the dictionary definition of flipside is "an opposite" so she decided that archery was an opposite of skating. The shop will sell various archery items and tree stands used by hunters. Melton was the initiator and driving force that won support and funding for a skate park here. She said The Greeneville Skate Park is expected to open in coming weeks. "If we didn't have the skate park in town," she said, "there wouldn't be a big market for skateboards. It [the shop] gives the local kids a place to hang out," Melton said. The skate shop's number is 638-3120. Copyright © 2008, The Greeneville Sun |
