The medical condition of Greene County Trustee Dan Walker, who was seriously burned in a Monday evening accident on his George Malone Road property, has improved at a North Carolina burn center.

Walker, who has served as Trustee since 1986, was upgraded to good condition at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., this morning, according to a hospital spokesman.

On Wednesday morning, Walker had been listed in serious condition at the same hospital. He initially had been listed in critical condition on Tuesday morning.

Earlier this week, Beth McNeese, Walker's daughter, said her father suffered burns over 37 percent of his body when he was thrown into a burning brush pile on his George Malone Road property while attempting to use an all-terrain vehicle to drag a fallen tree into the fire.

She also said her father was scheduled to undergo surgery today in preparation for the beginning of a skin-grafting process.

Walker is expected to remain at the burn center for at least a month, according to family members and friends.
