North Greene High School defeated Greeneville High School in the championship round of the 2008 Rotary Round Robin held Tuesday evening at the Crescent building.

The North Greene team won by the score of 85 to 75.

Greeneville and North Greene made it to the finals by having the highest total score following three rounds of competition among the five local high schools.

The championship was the first for North Greene in the 47-year history of the Round Robin.

The Round Robin competition involves asking students a wide range of questions on a variety of subjects.

Team Members

Team members from North Greene included: Kayla Cutshall, Samantha Dunsmore, Jesse Denny, Michael Britton and Brandy Humphries. They were coached by Sherry Foshie.

Team members from Greeneville included: Derrik Smith, Jerrica Goodson, Annie Luttrell, Paul Loewenkamp, Zack Sims, Emilio Leanza and Makenna Perry. They were coached by Shannon Duer.

Speech Contest

Derrik Smith, from Greeneville High School, and Spencer Stout, from Chuckey-Doak High School, competed in this year's Rotary Round Robin Scholarship Speech Contest.

They each gave a 3-to-5-minute speech on "What Winning a Rotary Round Robin Scholarship Would Mean to Me." They also were given a score based on their school and community activities over the past four years.

Smith received a $750 scholarship and Stout received a $500 scholarship to be used in continuing their education.

Over the past 47 years since the beginning of the Rotary Round Robin, the club has awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors.
