Died: June 29, 2009

Shirl Fender, 67, of the South Central community, died Monday at his home.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years: Imogene Fender; one son and daughter-in-law: Ricky and Karen Fender of Jonesborough; one daughter and son-in-law: Pam and Kenton Hensley of Greeneville; a brother and sister-in-law: Jimmy and Teresa Fender of Erwin; three sisters and one brother-in-law: Lois Flythe of Sulphur Springs; Verlyn Bailey of Boones Creek, and Judy and Willie Hilbert of Sulphur Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Dave and Velva Fender; and three brothers: Hoyle Fender, Gary Fender and Harley Fender.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service.

The funeral will follow visitation at 7 p.m. in Jeffers Funeral Chapel.

An interment service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Cemetery at South Central.

The Rev. Ray Penley and the Rev. Kenneth Powers will officiate.

Pallbearers will be David Flythe, Matthew Broyles, Ralph Hilbert, Justin Fender, Billy Cutshaw and Mac Broyles.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Broyles, Johna White, Allen White, Mike Buchanan, the nurses of Caris Home Health, his friends at Horse Creek Gospel Barn, the members of Horse Creek Mission Church, and the staff of Corley's Pharmacy.
