WREN, Ga. -- CW3 Robert E. Mahoney, 72, retired U.S. Army, of Avera, died Wednesday at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, Ga.

Mr. Mahoney was the husband of Mary W. Rader Mahoney, his wife of 50 years who is a native of Greene County, Tenn. He has relatives living in Greene County.

His family stated, "He served our country with pride during the Vietnam War and received many service awards, medals and commendations."

Mr. Mahoney was a member of AMBUCS, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and Hephzibah Lodge No. 412, F&AM.

Survivors include his daughter: Barbara Coreine Claxton of Grovetown, a sister: Patricia M. Briscoe of Vacaville, Calif.; and a sister-in-law and her husband: Sandra (Rader) and Richard Jones of Clifton, Va..

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Barnard and Irene Barbara Carroll Mahoney, and his brother, Charles Frances Mahoney.

The funeral service was held at 4:30 Friday afternoon at James Funeral Home Chapel in Wren. The Rev. David Davis officiated.

Interment with full military honors was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera.

Pallbearers were Tommy Sheppard, Bernard Pittman, Warren Mathis, Jason Mathis, Gary Kitchens, and Anthony Clark, and the members of the Avera Volunteer Fire Department.
