JONESBOROUGH -- Thomas Dale Archer, 73, of Jonesborough, died Monday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

Mr. Archer was a native of Washington County, a son of the late Elijah W. and Ruby May Sifford Archer.

He was a member of Chestnut Grove Union Church, where he served as deacon.

Mr. Archer retired from Baxter Pharmaceuticals after 32 years of employment.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Katherine Bailey Archer; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Linda and Rick Maxwell of Cookeville, Sarita Archer of the home, and Vickie Dale and Sam Shipley of Elizabethton; two granddaughters and their husbands: Melissa and David Stone and Chelsey and Mark Mishra, all of Cookeville; one great-grandson: Pete Stone of Cookeville; two sisters: Ruby Dietrich of Jonesborough and Louise Davidson of Louisville, Ky.; his sisters-in-law: Martha Archer of Jonesborough, and Bea Babb and Princie Bailey, both of Greeneville; his brothers-in-law and their wives: Justine Bailey of Florida, Charles and Joann Bailey and Ivan Bailey, all of Greeneville, and Bobby and Judy Bailey and Douglas and Marilyn Bailey, all of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sarah Katherine Maxwell, and a brother, George Harold Archer.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home in Jonesborough.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at Chestnut Grove Union Church. Dr. Kenneth Gaskin and Pastor Bryon Paddock will officiate.

Interment will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ken Francis, Lewis Hulse, Hobert Jones, Mickey Mackley, Jim Rash, and Paul Stover.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Cavin, Roy Crain, John "Bill" Hammett, Rick Maxwell, Gordie McNeil, Mark Mishra, Sam Shipley and David Stone.
