Died: March 13, 2010

Jerry Columbus Cate, 67, of Kenny Street, Greeneville, died Saturday at his home.

Mr. Cate retired after more than 40 years of service with Philips Consumer Electronics Co. (Magnavox).

He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Cate was born and reared in Sevier County and was a son of the late Troy and Lucille Cate.

He was a graduate of Sevier County High School.

Survivors include his wife: Vivian Jones Cate; a daughter and son-in-law: Angela and Todd Ross of Gatlinburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Ryan Cate and Russell and Amy Brooks of Greeneville; his grandchildren and a grandson-in-law: Candice and Evin Cole, Heather Woodby, Gavin Cate, Kendy L. Cate, Makayla Cate, Austin Brooks, Garrison Brooks, and Weston Brooks; a great-granddaughter: Catherine Cole; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Brenda and Tommy Thomas; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: J.C. and Shannon Jones and Johnny and Margaret Jones; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Cate; a brother, Robert Gene Cate; and a baby sister: Linda Joyce Cate.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 4 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. The Rev Ronnie Duncan will officiate.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Amedisys Hospice, who "had taken such good care of Jerry during his illness" his family stated; and his "compassionate and caring" physician: Dr. Richard Aasheim.

Memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice.
