Died: March 5, 2010

George C. Belt, 77, of Old Hall Road, Chuckey, died Friday at the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mr. Belt retired after 28 years of service as a security guard from the former Austin Company.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Angela Belt of Chuckey; five daughters and two sons-in-law: Angie and Jeff Taylor of Afton, Abby Metcalf and Judy Hale, both of Greeneville, Kristey and Eddie Drake of Limestone, and Bonnie Dunbar of Mosheim; his grandchildren: Maddox Jace Belt, Amber Lockhart, Logan Paul Taylor, Jalen James Stowe, LeeAnn Darnell, Joseph Hale, Matt Drake, Cody Drake, and Dallas Drake; his great-grandchildren: Hannah Darnell and Peyton Darnell; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece: Peggy Henderson; a special friend of the family: Josh Stowe of Greeneville, Abby Metcalf's fiancé.

He was a son of the late Jim and Laura Belt and was preceded in death by a son; and four brothers: Clyde Belt, Donald Lee Belt, Cliff Belt, and Sam Belt.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Danny Ricker and the Rev. Tommy Malone will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside rite.

Family and friends will meet at 2:30 at the funeral home to travel in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Taylor, Matt Drake, Eddie Drake, Jason Cutshall, Brandon Malone, and Josh Stowe.

His grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
