Jane Carol Voss
Died: Feb. 6, 2010
Jane Carol (Cempura) Voss, a former resident of Greeneville who has continued to have numerous friends in this community, died early Saturday morning. Her 70th birthday would have been March 4.
Mrs. Voss was the wife of Dr. Thomas G. Voss, who served as president of Tusculum College from 1972-78, after having served previously from 1970-72 as academic dean. The family lived in Greeneville from 1970-78.
She died after a long illness initiated by an incurable brain tumor which had debilitated her for nearly two decades, Dr. Voss said.
For many of the last years, Mrs. Voss required complete care, which she received at a North Carolina nursing home.
Dr. Voss stated that his wife "often said she had her happiest adult days during her years living in Greeneville, where her last two children, Kari and Michael, were born, where she received an honorary doctorate from Tusculum College, and where her closest friends still remain."
She had last visited the area in 1994 to celebrate the Tusculum College Bicentennial.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, now a resident of New York City and Beijing, China, include two daughters: Elizabeth Voss of New York and Kari Dimon, M.D., of Michigan; three sons: Lt. Col. Paul Voss of Norfolk, Va., Mark Voss, of Raleigh, N.C., and Michael Voss of Charlotte, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Voss's burial will be near her childhood home outside Buffalo, N.Y.
Persons wishing to make memorial gifts may direct them to their local or area branch of the American Cancer Society.
