Jasper Shelton
Died: Feb. 8, 2010
Jasper Shelton, 79, of 107 Cutoff,
Greeneville, died Monday morning at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
He was
born in Madison County, N.C., and was a son of the late Levi and Cora Ray Shelton.
Mr. Shelton's family stated, "He was of the Church of God tradition of faith. Jasper
was an inspiration to all, and he testified and witnessed about the Lord to everyone with whom he
came in contact. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all
who knew him."
He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Wanda Jean
Shelton; six sons and five daughters-in-law: J.B. and Jennifer Shelton, Billy and Debbie Shelton,
and David and Diane Shelton, all of North Carolina, Randy and Kathy Shelton, and Roger Shelton, all
of Greeneville, and Michael and Terry Shelton of Mosheim; two daughters: Kathy Waddell and Brenda
Salcido, both of Greeneville; 22 grandchildren: Nick Hensley, Brandon Shelton, Travis Shelton, Ethan
Salcido, Ondreea Shelton, and Breanna Shelton, all of Greeneville, Rachel Reichley of Virginia, and
Jasper Shelton, Amanda Shelton, Rhonda Shelton, Harley Shelton, Marsha Banks, Dakota Shelton, Taylor
Shelton, Little Bill Shelton, Cameron Shelton, Chris Shelton, Daniel Shelton, Arika Shelton, Sarah
Shelton, Ayla Shelton and Lee Shelton, all of North Carolina; two stepgranddaughters: Samantha Rice
and Candy Hall, both of North Carolina; two great-granddaughters: Samiah Shelton and Ashley Hall,
both of North Carolina; two special friends of the family: Ruth Babb and Robert Lane, both of
Greeneville; and a dear friend: John Britton.
Mr. Shelton was preceded
in death by two grandsons: John Jolinor and Samuel Shelton; five brothers: Kling Shelton, Ralph
Shelton, Ben Shelton, Ronald Shelton, and Jack Shelton; two sisters: Stella Griffin and Amy Shelton;
and two half-brothers: James Taffy and Charles Taffy.
The family will
receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the funeral home
chapel. The Rev. Anson Johnson and the Rev. David Watson will officiate.
Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Nick Hensley, Brandon Shelton, Travis Shelton, Ethan Salcido,
Russell Waddell, Eddie Smelcer, Chris Ragon, Jeff Arwood, and Timmy Arrowood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Stephen Flohr, Dr. Walter Mason, and all the
"wonderful nurses who cared for Jasper "at Laughlin Memorial Hospital and Laughlin Health Care
Center.
