CHILHOWIE, Va. -- Joy Janine Hall, 42, formerly of Greeneville, died Sunday at her home in Chilhowie.

She was born in Smyth County and was a daughter of Brenda S. Rice and the late Jerry M. Hall. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Joe Rice.

Miss Hall served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

Her family stated, "Joy grew up working on her grandparents' farm and loved to farm with her grandfather. She was a very loving and giving person who will always be remembered for living up to her name. She was a 'Joy' to be with."

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a sister and brother-in-law: April and Ronnie Lyles of Chilhowie; her nieces and nephews and their spouses: Rena and Franklin Shumate, Daniel and Trish Lyles, and Dessa and Dustin Smith; a great-nephew: Gage Lyles; her special aunts and uncles: Linda Larmer and Bobby and Donna Combs, all of Chilhowie, Brenda and Walter Waddell of Atkins, Gary and Candice Hall of Clintwood, Cathy Hall of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jackie McVey and Becky Hall, both of Chilhowie, and Steve and Tammy Hall of Pearisburg; her stepsisters and their husbands: Joie and Bruce Widner and Barbara and Tom Honey; and her special friend: Mary Sapp.

The funeral service will be held at 6 o'clock this afternoon at Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion. The Rev. Darrell Lambert and Pastor Mike Sage will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. and following the service at the funeral home.

Military honors will be rendered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Francis Marion Post No. 4667.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Grosses Creek Baptist Church, 250 Flatwood Acres Road, Chilhowie, VA 24319.
