Miles W. Marshall

Died: Nov. 12, 2009

Miles William Marshall, 60, of the Union Temple community, died Thursday afternoon at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, surrounded by his "loving family."

Mr. Marshall was born June 2, 1949, in Greeneville, and was a son of the late W. Robert and Jessie Marshall.

His family provided the following statement: "He went to the University of Tennessee where he met his one true love, Teresa Vaughan Marshall, at the University of Florida versus the University of Tennessee football game in 1970. They were happily married for 38 years and raised five children in the Union Temple community.

"Miles was born and raised on the family dairy farm, where he worked until 1985. In 1985, he began working for Farmer's Service, an affiliate of Farm Bureau where he was currently employed. He never met a stranger and loved working with people.

"He also loved sports especially coaching them. He coached youth sports including basketball, baseball, softball, as well as adult softball at Newmansville Elementary, Chuckey Elementary, Chuckey-Doak High School, and Greeneville Parks and Recreation. He will be remembered as a great leader and a good example for the time and effort he put into the community.

"He attended Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as a church leader and treasurer as well as a member of the United Methodist Men's Club. He considered his church family some of the best friends he ever had.

"He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by those who knew him."

In addition to his "loving and dedicated" wife, survivors include his children and their spouses: Stacey (Marshall) and Ethan Miller of Soddy Daisy, David and Aimie (Loper) Marshall of Birmingham, Ala., Kerri (Marshall) and Doug Dayton of Limestone, Mark and Shana (GeFellers) Marshall of Greeneville and Josh Marshall of Knoxville; his grandchildren: Kinsey Miller, Addie Miller, Clayton Marshall, Caroline Marshall, Conner Marshall, Kaydence Marshall, and Kennah Marshall; two brothers and a sister-in-law: Michael and Elizabeth Marshall of Knoxville and George Marshall of Chuckey; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; a special friend of the family: Holly Bible; and his special "loving and caring" caregivers: the nurses, volunteers, and staff at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Mark Marshall.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service.

The funeral service will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Mount Zion UM Church. The Rev. Kristen Burkhart and the Rev. David Woody will officiate.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his sons: David Marshall and Josh Marshall, his nephews: Robert Marshall, John Marshall, and Jonathan Marshall; and his sons-in-law: Ethan Miller and Doug Dayton.
