Ruble 'Junior' Baskett

Died: Nov. 8, 2009

FALL BRANCH -- Ruble "Junior" Baskett, 78, of Jonesborough, died Sunday at his home following an extended illness.

"He went to be with the Lord," his family noted.

Mr. Baskett was a member of the local Teamsters Union No. 549, where he served as a union steward.

He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and attended Cornerstone Fellowship Church.

"He was of the Baptist tradition of faith, and accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age.

"He enjoyed horseback riding, baseball, and car racing. More importantly, he enjoyed attending church and being with his family and friends. He was the type of man who would do anything for anyone, and never met a stranger," his family stated

Survivors include his wife of 21 years: Geraldine "Jerrie" Baskett; a daughter and son-in-law: Cathy and Jerry Weston of Kingsport; a son and daughter-in-law: David and Cindy Baskett of Jonesborough; two stepdaughters and their husbands: Tammy and Randall Wines and Tonya and Duane Phillips, and one stepson and his wife: Eddie and Tonya Speers, all of Jonesborough; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one stepgreat-granddaughter; three sisters: Lorna Evans of Chuckey, and Wilma Baskett and Geneva Murray, both of Jonesborough; two brothers: Paul Baskett of Blountville and Mike Baskett of Jonesborough; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruble and Eva Baskett, and an infant son, Jack Russell Baskett.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Cornerstone Fellowship Church.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the church. The Rev. Harold Morelock and the Rev. Ronnie Baxter will officiate.

Burial will follow in Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ben Tittsworth, Ted Brice, Donnie Willis, David Bright, Allen Evans, and Junior Grills.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Fellowship Church, 169 Judge Baines Road, Fall Branch, TN 37656.
