Guy "Bill" Weems, 74, of Cox Road, Greeneville, died
Thursday morning at Signature HealthCARE with his wife, Louise I. Weems, and his grandson, Jonathon
Weems, at his side.
Mr. Weems retired as a self-employed painter and
drywall contractor after more than 30 years.
He moved to DeKalb, Ill., as
a young man, where he met and married Louise.
His family noted, "After
retiring, Guy decided to take his wife of 48 years and his grandson, whom he thought of like a son
and from whom he was inseparable, to Greeneville, where he purchased land that he enjoyed walking
and raising cows."
Additional survivors include three sons and one
daughter-in-law: Guy Weems Jr. of Sterling, Ill., Robert and Cheryl Weems of Spring Hill, Kan., and
Ronald Weems of Sterling; a daughter: Tonya Weems of Sterling; his grandchildren and a
grandson-in-law: Travis Weems, Autumn and Israel Parra, Ryan Weems, Carrie Weems, Jessica Weems,
Jeremy Weems, and Andrew Weems; his great-grandchildren: Nathalia Parra, Nicholas Parra, Julia
Parra, Brooklyn Parra, Raven Weems, and Hope Weems; a brother: John Weems of Greeneville; two
sisters and a brother-in-law: Lois Willett of Greeneville and Ima Jean and Gerald Shelton of
Georgia; five brothers-in-law: Lyle Fortner of Greene County and four in Illinois; four
sisters-in-law: Mrs. Lacy (Polly) Weems of Greene County, two in Illinois, and one in California;
and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was a son of the late
Charlie and Pearl Combs Weems and was preceded in death by a special granddaughter: Candice Marie
Weems; three brothers: Ben Weems, Lacey Weems, and J.D. Weems; and a sister: Frances
Fortner.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at
Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30
Monday morning in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Buster Shelton, the Rev. Paul Ragan, and the
Rev. Richard Bailey will officiate.
Interment will follow in New Bethel
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathon Weems, Guy Weems Jr., Mike Rader,
Chad Rader, the Rev. Paul Ragan, and the Rev. Richard Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Aasheim, Dale Blazer, Jimmy
Willett, Roger Willett, John Baxter, and his caregivers of Signature Health Care.
