KINGSPORT -- Robert "Bob" Bennett, 72, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening due to a stroke.
Mr. Bennett was a Christian and an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for 49 years, where he was serving as a teller.
"He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved Southern Gospel Music," his family stated.
"Bob worked several years in printing and law enforcement, which he loved and enjoyed."
Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Noonie Carpenter Bennett; three brothers and sisters-in-law: the Rev. William C. and Joyce Bennett of Maryville, A.T. and Virginia Bennett of Kingsport, and Carl and B.J. Bennett of Jonesborough; a sister: Margaret Horner of Georgia; his nieces and nephews and their spouses: Pat and Ron Akard, Leann Bennett, Dan and Amy Bennett, Mark Bennett, Amy and Kevin Millslagle, Brad Akard, Ruth Ann Liggett, David Liggett, Steve and Cindy Horner, Brook Liggett, Ray J. Bennett, Ray Bennett Jr., Kennedy Millslagle, Kylie and Shelby Bennett, Ron and Laurie Southerland, and Samantha Bennett; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry and Patsy Byerley, George and Jean Ledbetter, Herman and Gladys McAninch, and Bill and Frances Whitmore; and special friends: Jim and Evelyn Dean.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the church. Pastor Randy Pressnell will officiate.
Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his nephews: Scott Byerley, Steve Horner, Todd Jennings, Stoney McAninch, Brent Whitmore, Mike Wilson, Mark Bennett, and a friend David Dean.
Honorary pallbearers will be his "Honey Bunny" nieces and nephews: Jalana Jennings, Julia Wilson, Kim Walton, Kristi Madison, Tammy McAninch, Celeste Byerley, Suzanne Byerley, Courtney Wilson, Kinsley Jennings, Haylee McAninch, Piper Whitmore, Nicole Byerley (Bob's pride and joy), Kade Jennings, Drew Byerley, Bridgette Whitmore, Baillee Walton, and Lauren Horner.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church or to the Puppet Ministry, both at 311 Cypress St., Mount Carmel, TN 37645.
