Mary Russell Shipley

Died: Nov. 3, 2009

DANDRIDGE -- Mary Russell Shipley, 94, of Hilham, formerly of Jefferson County, died Tuesday at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

Mrs. Shipley is survived in Greene County by two grandchildren, Lisa Freeman and Joel Shipley.

She was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Sevier County and was a daughter of the late Humphrey and Ida Belle Russell. She was the widow of William H. Shipley, her husband of 56 years who died Jan. 9, 1996.

Mrs. Shipley was a retired certified nurses assistant and attended Maxwell Chapel First Church of God in Hilham.

In addition to two grandchildren, survivors include two sons and their wives: David H. and Peggy Shipley of Middletown, Ohio, and the Rev. Ralph T. and Judy Shipley of Hilham; a grandson: Michael Shipley of Florida; five great-granddaughters: Stephanie Freeman Richey, Emily Freeman, Taylor Shipley, Jordan Shipley, and Courtney Shipley.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Gerald Rudd will officiate.

Interment will follow in Hebron Cemetery.
