Cosby Mae Black King, 88, of Sun Valley Drive, Greeneville, died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter and special son-in-law, Genna and Jim Warner in Mohawk.
She was born May 17, 1921, in Greene County, and was a daughter of the late William and Emma Walker.
Mrs. King retired from the former Southern Electronics, where she worked for more than 30 years.
The family stated, "Her first family was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene for 54 years.
"During the past year, she attended Mount Hope United Methodist Church.
"She was a Sunday School teacher for more than 45 years. She served on the board for 38 years.
"She continued to serve her church through Vacation Bible School and helping to direct the children's Easter and Christmas programs. She continued to praise God through the word of song until her health would not permit.
"Mrs. King was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed."
She was the widow of Emory David Story, James Clarence Black, and Andrew King.
Survivors, in addition to a daughter and son-in-law, include a son and special daughter-in-law: Emory Junior Story and his wife, Patricia "Pat" Story, of Greene County; two stepdaughters: Joann Harrell and Gaynell Laws, all of Greene County; two stepsons and their wives, Lloyd and Barbara King of Virginia and James and Kay King of Greeneville; 12 grandchildren: Teresa Story, Lisa McDonald, and Angie Story, all of Georgia, Sandy Price, Jamie Story, Michelle Hensley, Cindy Cobble, Steve Brotherton, Billy McNabb, Sybil Bettencourt, Brent Warner and Jennifer Lawson, all of Greene County; 21 great-grandchildren: Alicia Afkea, Justin McDonald, Lauren McDonald, Bryson Story, Colton Story, Jaycee Story, Chelsey Price, Danielle Babb, Daniel Babb, Melinda Babb, Brittany Hensley, Josh Hensley, Kristen Cobble, Bobby Cobble, Daulton Brotherton, Tyler McNabb, Travis McNabb, Nicole Warner, Jonathan Warner, Janie Lawson, and Dwight Lawson; five great-great-grandchildren: Jameson Cobble, Madison Cobble, Brianna Cobble, Adam Hensley, and Jordon Babb; a sister: Wynell Hensley of Greeneville; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends: the members of the congregation of the First Church of the Nazarene, who "always made certain she had a ride to and from church," the family stated, and her pastor and his wife, the Rev. Stephen and Karen Rutherford.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Linda Evans; a stepson: Edward King; a grandson: Tommy Sheppard; a great-grandson: Houston Brotherton; four brothers: Conard Walker, Kyle Walker, Jack Walker, and Ralph Walker; four sisters: Reba Walton, Lucy Shores, Bessie Vaughn, and Bonnie Walker.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Stephen Rutherford and the Rev. David Gibbs will officiate.
Interment will follow in Doty's Chapel Cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service.
Pallbearers will be Bud Hensley, Bobby Cobble Jr., Josh Hensley, Brent Warner, Chris Warner, Daniel Babb, Jamie Story, and Ricky Trentham.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of The First Church of the Nazarene and Mount Hope UM Church.
