Died: Oct. 2, 2008

Georgia Smith Greene, 89, of Fall Branch, died Thursday, at Wexford House, surrounded by her family and friends.

Her family said she "went to be with the Lord."

She retired from Kingsport Press in 1973.

Mrs. Greene was of the Baptist tradition of faith and "was a godly woman," her family stated.

They added: "Georgia loved to eat with family and friends, and she especially loved apple butter. She made friends everywhere she went and loved to ride around."

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Greene; her parents, Lee J. and Martha Smith; one brother, Guyan R. Smith; and two sisters, L. Maude Smith and Susie K. Brumley; and a niece, Eula R. Jackson.

Survivors include: two stepdaughters: Mary Evelyn Kirkpatrick of Rogersville, and Billie Jean Aulds and her husband, Charlie Aulds, of Cleveland; two stepgranddaughters and their husbands: Nancy and Whit Thomas of Rogersville, and Cynthia and Michael Christian of Houston, Texas; a stepgrandson and his wife: Craig and Judy Kirkpatrick of Rogersville; two special nieces: Mrs. William C. (Mildred L.) Bruner and Jean Pinson and her husband, Troy Pinson; other nieces and nephews: Jack Brumley, Howard Brumley, Robert Brumley, Jerry Brumley, Ruby Light, Harold Light, Helen Hammonds, Carolyn Hammonds, Billy Smith, Connie Smith, Jimmy Hayes and Mary Ruth Hayes; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; and her "angels" at the Wexford House and Amedisys Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch.

The services will follow at 7 p.m. at the Fall Branch Chapel.

The Rev. Victor Wallace and the Rev. Carl Strickler will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Fall Branch Cemetery.

Family members will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Lloyd White, 1525 Hwy. 93, Fall Branch, TN 37656.
