J.C. Babb Sr.

James Clarence "J.C." Babb Sr., 78, of Afton, died Thursday
at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
His family stated, "Many people will
remember J.C. as the 'Ice Man,' who delivered ice in Greeneville and surrounding areas for 30 years
with his good friend, the late J.D. Bible.
"J.C. never met a stranger and
had a smile for everyone he came in contact with. He was of the Presbyterian faith and loved to
sing."
Mr. Babb built bridges for the U.S. Army in Korea, while serving
in the Korean War.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew
Johnson Post No. 1990.
Survivors include wife: Agnes Ramsey Babb of
Greeneville; two sons and daughters-in-law: Clarence "Clay" and Judy Babb of Greeneville and Roger
and Tammy Babb of Afton; four daughters and two sons-in-law: Evelyn and LeRoy Jent of Jonesborough,
Judy Babb Smith of Mosheim, Cindy and the Rev. Wesley Wallis of Fayetteville, N.C., and Peggy Sue
Babb of Jonesborough; one stepdaughter and her husband: Sherry and Roger Clark of Afton; one
stepdaughter-in-law: Susie White Johnson of Greeneville; 11 grandchildren: Clayton Babb of
Greeneville, Chad Smith and Brad Smith, both of Mosheim, John Babb, Dylan Babb, Dustin Babb, and
Rusty Babb, all of Afton, Cody Wallis, Savannah Wallis, Hannah Wallis, and Malachi Wallis, all of
Fayetteville; three stepgrandchildren: Timothy Clark and Kathy Clark Lane, both of Afton, and Karri
Johnson of Greeneville; several great-grandchildren; one sister: Dorothy Babb Ramsey of Greeneville;
a brother-in-law: Harlen Miller of Greeneville; a special cousin: Mary Lena Jackson of Afton; and
his special extended family at Durham-Hensley Nursing Home in Chuckey.
He
was a son of the late James Edgar and Laura Malone Babb and was preceded in death by a sister: Lena
Belle Babb Miller, and a stepson: Terry Lee Johnson.
The family will
receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today and Saturday at Kiser Funeral
Home.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o'clock in the
funeral home chapel. The Rev. Frankie Isley and the Rev. Ted Reynolds will
officiate.
Interment will be held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
His grandsons will be
pallbearers.
