Died: July 18, 2008

Alonzo Jacob Bird, 81, of S.T. Wilhoit Drive, Greeneville, died Friday morning at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Bird was a farmer and retired from TRW Ross Gear, which is now Parker.

He was a member of Mount Hebron United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bird served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew Johnson Post No. 1990.

Survivors include his wife: Reba Bowman Bird; a son and daughter-in-law: Alonzo Jacob "Jake" Bird Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Greeneville; three daughters and one son-in-law: Linda and Kenneth Cox and Frances Bird, all of Greeneville, and Mary Anna Bird of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren: Kimberly Cox, Genia Cox Gregg, Kelley Williams Laird and her husband, Danny, of Atlanta, Ga., Alonzo Jacob "A.J." Bird III, Alexus Grace Bird, and Morgan Levenhagen; three great-grandchildren: Aaron Gregg, Joseph Daniel Laird, and Jacob William Laird; two brothers and sisters-in-law: David and Joyce Bird and Steve and Minnie Belle Bird, all of Greeneville; four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Helen and Clyde Jones of Knoxville, and Mary June Broyles, Joann and Bob Humphreys, and Wanda and Eugene Wilhoit, all of Greeneville; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Earnest Vern and Imogene Bowman, Mary Bell Hankal, Imogene Luttrell, and Betty Jo and J.D. House, all of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a son of the late John Willis and Ella Broyles Bird and was preceded in death by three brothers: Sam Bird, Fred Bird, and Doyle Bird; and one sister: Maxine Cooter.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Kiser Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. George Kirkland will officiate. Interment will be in River Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny Laird, Bobby Bird, Sammy Lynn Bird, Doyle Edward Bird, Eugene Wilhoit, Randy Bowman, Allen Hankal, and Kaylan Shepherd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Green, Doyle Shephard, Joe Bob Humphreys, J.D. House, Earnest Vern Bowman, Dr. Maynard Austin, Dr. Dharmen Patel, and Dr. Lynn Smith.
