Died: July 17, 2008

JONESBOROUGH -- Jessie Rutledge Taylor, 93, of Old State Route 34, Limestone, died Thursday at Signature HealthCARE of Greeneville after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 15, 1914, in Piney Flats, she had lived most of her life in the Washington College and Limestone communities. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Lilbern and Ethel Gross Rutledge.

She was the widow of James J. Taylor Sr., who died in 1976.

Mrs. Taylor was a 1932 graduate of Washington College Academy and a 1936 graduate of Tennessee Teacher's College.

She was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and a member of the Ladies Missionary Society.

During the late 1930s and early 1940s, she taught home economics at Washington College Academy and taught briefly in the Washington and Greene County school systems.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: James J. Taylor Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, and a daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn (Taylor) and Charles Lewis, all of Limestone; three grandsons and their wives: Brad and Janice Taylor, Matthew and Dawn Taylor, and Stephen and Carrie Lewis; two granddaughters and their husbands: LeeAnn (Taylor) and Anthony Greene and Kelly (Lewis) and John Lemmons; two great-granddaughters: Addison Grace Taylor Greene and Audrey Lane; and two great-grandsons: Landon Lane and Aaron Lane.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at Salem Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bill Wing and the Rev. Dava Lee Russell will officiate.

Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1-2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be John Russell, John Slagle, Alan Shelton, Jerry Jones, Russell Greene, Anthony Greene, Brad Taylor and Matthew Taylor.

Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Jonesborough is in charge of arrangements.
